Institute of Archaeology
The Institute of Archaeology (part of the School of Archaeology) was established in 1962 by its first Director, Professor Christopher Hawkes. It is housed in three Regency buildings in Beaumont Street and now, together with the Research Laboratory in the Dyson-Perrins Building, South Parks Road, is the main focus for archaeological activity within Oxford University. The Institute forms a base for undergraduate and graduate students, has offices for academic and support staff, teaching rooms, photographic, graphics and computing facilities as well as a reading room and a common room. It offers a vibrant research environment with many seminars, lectures and meetings taking place there. These pages offer more information on the Institute’s activities and facilities.
